Max's surgery. Please donate!

Meet Max.

Max, a 7-month-old Doberman mix, found himself needing rescue through no fault of his own. After a serious injury to his leg, Max's owners were unable to pay for the urgent surgery that he needed and he was taken to the vet to be euthanized. Fortunately the vet notified LOYAL Rescue and Max was able to have his surgery paid for and to join our foster program while he recovered and awaited a new forever family.

Max is now living with his foster family in London and is recovering nicely from his surgery. He will be on “bed rest” for a while, but we are told that he is an excellent patient and loves all the extra hugs and attention he has been getting!

Unfortunately Max’s surgery set LOYAL back $1,500 (and counting). Often our expenses for our foster dogs exceed that which we “recoup” in adoption fees, and in some cases, like with Max, those costs can be crippling to a rescue.

We are hoping that, through the generous donations of our fans and supporters, we will be able to make back some of the money that was spent on Max’s vet care.

100 per cent of the proceeds from all donations go directly towards the vetting of our dogs, and any and all donations made in Max’s name will go to pay off the very large vet bill to-date that he has accumulated, as well as any future bills for his care.

How can you donate?

That’s easy! You have a few options.

1. Donate through the ChipIn that has been set up in Max’s name below. All money donated will go directly into LOYAL’s vetting account. ChipIn uses Paypal for secure online payments directly from your bank account or a credit card.

View the ChipIn here: http://loyalrescue.chipin.com/maxs-leg-surgery.
Just click on "ChipIn" and you can donate directly through the website.

2. Donate online through CanadaHelps.org and receive a tax receipt for your donation. This money is held in trust in a vetting account on behalf of Helping Homeless Pets. Instructions on how to donate online through CanadaHelps are available above under the “Donate” tab.

3. Send a cheque made out to LOYAL Rescue Inc. to the following address, which “Max” in the memo line.

LOYAL Rescue Inc.
171A Rink Street, Suite 199
Peterborough, Ontario
K9J 2J6

* Please note that donations made through ChipIn or via cheque will not receive tax receipts. If you would like to donate via cheque and require a tax receipt, please visit our "Donate" tab for additional information*
Thank you, as always, for your generous support.

Secret Santa

Thanks to the great idea of our Newsletter Coordinator and the participation of some wonderful LOYAL fans, over 35 dogs were able to take part in our first ever Secret Santa!

Here are some LOYAL foster dogs enjoying their spoils, courtesy of some very generous folks, on Christmas morning!

Dexter was so excited he couldn't even wait for the bag to be opened; he just dove right in!

Mickey modeling his new collar and leash on what appears to be one very comfortable bed!

Lucy is brand new to rescue and missed the Santa assignments, to awesome volunteer Ann was her Secret Santa this go-around!

Adorable, senior Molly isn't posted on the site yet, but that didn't stop her from being spoiled (not-so) rotten this Christmas! Look at all those goodies!

Lovely Penny has gone through a lot in her life and was so happy to spend this Christmas safe and warm in her foster home. Lots of presents was an added bonus, too!

Senior Willis was seriously spoiled by his Santa and is sticking close to his gifts, testing each one out in turn!

Ricky might not be too sure about the camera, but he's absolutely sure that he has an awesome Secret Santa who spoiled him this year!

Cece and Mister got loads of awesome stuff from Santa, and, like good foster siblings, they were happy to share with each other!

Clara and Gino were a bit overwhelmed at first with all the presents to open, but they managed to pull through! Clara even got the most amazing gift of all - a forever family just in time for the New Year!

Zorro was so exhausted after opening all his gifts that he picked the most comfy one - a fuzzy red blanket! - and passed out on it! Christmas is exhausting!

And last but not least, the gorgeous Dane-x puppies rescued just a few months ago (and now ready to go to forever families) got a humungous box of goodies that they just couldn't wait to open!

For some dogs this was the first Christmas they have ever celebrated, and for all of them it was their very first Christmas with their new foster families. Thank you to everyone who made this a very merry Christmas for our foster dogs and foster homes alike; you are all amazing, generous folks and we're lucky to have you in our LOYAL family!

Funny Farm Boutique Promotion

How can you help LOYAL dogs this holiday season and get a great gift item for yourself (or perhaps a dog-loving friend or family member), too?  Easy!

Funny Farm Boutique will be donating $5 from the sale of every collar and $5 from the sale of every leash to LOYAL Rescue!

Simply visit the Funny Farm Boutique website: http://www.funnyfarmboutique.ca/, shop for a fantastic collar and/or leash (or two!) and when you checkout to pay, make sure to write "HHP-LOYAL Rescue" in the comments section.

The money will be donated directly to Helping Homeless Pets, our umbrella rescue, and by putting "HHP-LOYAL Rescue" in the comments you ensure that HHP then redirects the donation to our dogs.  It's very important that you remember to put "HHP-LOYAL Rescue" in the comments or the money cannot be redirected to us.

Happy shopping, and thanks in advance for your support!  Be sure to let your family and friends know, too!

Donate to LOYAL Rescue!

We receive a lot of inquiries from people asking us how they can donate to dogs in need, which is fantastic!  Because we are not-for-profit and 100 per cent volunteer run, any and all donations are welcome.

Here are some ways that you can donate and help our foster dogs:

FOOD DONATIONS

We always welcome food donation!  Our foster homes purchase food for their foster dogs out-of-pocket, and often dogs can require specific, and sometimes expensive, diets.  Because we have foster homes all over Southern Ontario from Sarnia in the West to Ottawa in the East, we are usually able to pick-up or accept food donations and get them to our other foster homes on a transport.  If you are interested in donating food to our foster dogs, please send us an e-mail and we will put you in touch with our Donation Coordinator.

BEDDING, TOYS, CLOTHING or other MISCELLANEOUS DONATIONS

Again, because our fosters purchase dog-related items (beds, blankets, toys, brushes, sweaters, winter coats, winter boots, bowls, etc.) out-of-pocket for their fosters, donations of these items (and more!) are always welcome.  Please send us an e-mail and we will determine who needs these donations most, and put you in touch with that person.  If they are out of your area, transport can likely be arranged.

AUCTION ITEM DONATIONS

Every so often LOYAL takes place in an online auction hosted by Helping Homeless Pets.  New or gently used items of all kinds (not just pet-related) are donated and the funds are then directed to the rescue that donated them.  This is a great fundraising opportunity for LOYAL, so if you have any items that you would like to donate to our auction, please contact us and we will put you in touch with our Auction Coordinator.  Ultimately the donations will need to make their way to Markham, but transport can possibly be arranged if you are outside the GTA (our Coordinator lives downtown Toronto, so getting them to her would be ideal, but not a requirement).

MONETARY DONATIONS

Like most rescues, we rely solely on donations and adoption fees to fund our foster program.  All monies received go directly into an account that pays for the vetting and care of our foster dogs.  We are 100 per cent not-for-profit, so not a single penny is ever used for anything other than rescuing, vetting and rehabilitating our dogs.

If you are interested in donating money to our cause, you have the following options:

Online

You can donate online through our umbrella rescue group, Helping Homeless Pets (“HHP”).  You can access HHP’s secure CanadaHelps site at the following link:

http://www.canadahelps.org/CharityProfilePage.aspx?CharityID=s98871.

Simply choose "DONATE NOW", and then choose LOYAL Rescue from the Fund/Designation drop-down menu (this step is incredibly important as any funds sent to HHP without choosing LOYAL from the list will not be forwarded to us).

Complete the remainder of the page and continue.

It should be pretty straight-forward, and a tax receipt will be issued at the end of your transaction. You can also indicate in the "Message to Helping Homeless Pets" area that the donation is for LOYAL Rescue if you like, but if you have already chosen our group from the drop-down menu then this is not necessary.

**It is important that you choose our rescue from their drop-down list of member groups, so that the money will be collected by them and then forwarded to our account.**

Please note that this is the only donation route where a tax receipt can be issued.  If you require a tax receipt, please donate online only.

Via Cheque

If you are interested in donating via cheque (and do not require a tax receipt), please send a cheque made out to LOYAL Rescue to the following address, and please put "donation" in the memo line.

LOYAL Rescue
171A Rink Street, Suite 199
Peterborough, Ontario
K9J 2J6

Please include your e-mail address on the cheque so that a confirmation e-mail can be sent upon receipt.

Via e-mail money transfer

If you wish to donate securely through an e-mail money transfer from your bank, please contact us at info@loyalrescue.com and we will send you instructions on where to send the money.

In person

Because we do not run a shelter where someone can visit to donate funds, you will be required, if you are interested in donating (either with cash or by cheque) in person, please send us an e-mail and we will put you in touch with a volunteer in your area that can accept the donation on our behalf.

Please note that tax receipts cannot be issued on cash or cheque donations.  Only online donations through our Canadahelps.org 'Giving Page' can receive tax receipts.

DONATIONS OF YOUR TIME

We are always in need of liked-minded volunteers who are interested in helping out LOYAL Rescue in terms of screening potential adopters, performing home visits, attending events and, of course, foster homes.   Our screeners - phone interview and home visit - as well as our foster homes are required to undergo training (and screening in the case of our foster homes), so if you are interested in becoming a member of the LOYAL team (and we're a great group to be a part of!), please contact our Volunteer Coordinator or our Foster Home Coordinator for details.

As always, thank you for your generous support of our foster program.  If you have any additional questions about donating, please send us an e-mail and someone will be in touch.

Delilah the puppy mill survivor needs surgery!!

Delilah the Yorkie arrived on January 29, 2011 on a transport from Ohio where she was rescued by LOYAL Rescue Inc. from a puppy mill. She had had multiple litters, and had spent her two years of life in a small cage with no human affection.

We were told when she came to us that she had the start of dry eye in one eye, which was quite evident when we got her home. We put drops in it for days in the hope that the extreme dryness could be remedied, but knew after about 5 day that, while they did help slightly, the drops were not the solution.

Delilah was taken to our local vet and we were given the bad news: Delilah suffered a severe trauma to one side of her face which affected her jaw (it is twisted causing a severe under bite), her nose (her nostril is twisted and smaller than the other) and her eye (her eye socket is smaller and her eye was damaged). What likely began as dry eye turned into a major scratch on her eye ball which has left her without a cornea. Because of this scratch, eye fluid (what keeps our eyes lubricated, holds the structure and gives us sight) is leaking from her eye! So what we thought was infection being washed out is actually necessary, important fluid from inside her eye. Her eye is collapsing.

And the reason her nose always seems runny? It's not a cold, oh no, it's her eye fluid leaking out of her nasal passage on that side!

Delilah's has two options in terms of correction: a very pricey specialist who could re-create a lense and cornea, and repair her eye giving her back at least some sight (she currently cannot see out of that eye, hence her terrible depth perception), or removal of the eye so that Delilah can move on with her life.

Despite these health issues, Delilah loves life! She is so sweet and happy, and has yet to meet a person she doesn't love (which is quite remarkable given how humans have treated her her entire life). She gives sweet kisses to everyone - dogs and humans alike - and loves to cuddle on your lap. She is wonderful on a leash and loves to romp outside with her foster brother (a fellow LOYAL rescue dog!). She sleeps in our bed and has a fantastic zest for life.

With this extreme of an injury to her eye, however, it's very unlikely that Delilah is not hiding at least some degree of pain. But she doesn't complain! Life outside of the mill is so sweet, how could a girl find any fault?

As you know, LOYAL Rescue Inc. is a non-profit rescue comprised of dedicated, hard working volunteers who donate their time, money, expertise, and homes to these wonderful homeless souls. Without donations from the public we cannot operate and cannot save dogs. When we take on cases like Delilah's, the fee that we receive upon the dog's adoption can often only cover 1/4 or less of the cost that LOYAL incurred for their vetting. This is why we desperately need your help!

Delilah needs this surgery, that much is true. Without it, she will continue to endure what we can only imagine is constant pain and suffering. After all she has been through in her life so far, she deserves more than that.

Donations to Delilah's surgery can be made through the following secure Chipin page. These funds go directly to LOYAL Rescue Inc. and will pay Delilah's mounting vet bills!

We are so happy that Delilah came into our lives, even if it is just for a short while until she finds her forever home. Please help us make her wish come true and give her a new start to a better, happy, healthy life in 2011.

Thank you for your generous donation, and for your ongoing support of LOYAL Rescue Inc. and our rescued dogs.
