Dog of the Week: Abi

I had the great pleasure of spending 2.5 hours in the car with Abi when I transported her from her temporary foster mom to her long-term foster mom. We met in a parking lot, half asleep, at 6am and as soon as I said her name she ran over and jumped into my arms.  She rode the entire way on my lap and between naps and loads of kisses (whether I wanted them or not! lol), we became fast friends.

Abi is a happy, outgoing, spunky, 1-year-old, 10 lb. Dachshund-Terrier mix who loves other dogs and all people she comes in contact with. Until recently, Abi lived on the streets of Mexico and then at the Humane Society of Cozumel. She was adopted by a tourist who came through on a cruise ship, but unfortunately when the ship left the island, Abi was left behind.

LOYAL has received a number of dogs from Cozumel in the last few years and all of them have had loving, loyal temperaments; Abi is no different. She made the long trek to Canada in June and is now residing with her foster family in Ottawa where she is awaiting her forever family to come along and snatch her up. And oh, what a lucky family that will be!

Abi loves going for walks, riding in the car, playing in the yard and snuggling with anyone who will offer her a lap to curl up on. She is working on her house training and making improvements every day. She is crate trained and happy to have her own space during the night where she sleeps without complaint.

With ongoing training, a consistent schedule and lots of love, Abi is going to turn into an amazing adult dog.  And who could resist that scruffy, mischievous face?!

Will you be the lucky family to adopt Abi? Apply online today and one of our volunteers will be in touch.

Happy adopting!

  1. Abi resembles my Molly, who I adopted from Loyal in June 2011! What a wonderful experience Abi's new family will have when she bounces into their lives!! God Bless, Abi!!
