Weekly Rescue Round-up: October 31, 2011

Happy Halloween!  Remember that as cute as some Halloween costumes are, not every dog wants to be dressed up.  Some costumes restrict visibility, mobility and even the ability to breath properly.  Stay safe out there and remember to put practicality and comfort above amusement!

NEW ARRIVALS

The following dogs are new to foster care and are now available for adoption. Applications can be submitted through our website.

Charley is a 3-year-old, female Chihuahua who came to us from the Kingston Humane Society when her own surrendered her into their care.  Charley is good with dogs and older cats, but due to some food aggression (not sure if you've noticed, but Charley could stand to lose a few lbs.!) would do best in an adult-only home.  Charley is an affectionate and friendly girl who loves cuddles and belly scratches.

Please submit any applications for adoption through our website, or send us an e-mail for more information.

PENDING

Adoptions are currently approved and pending Bowser, Daisy and Honey. We are no longer accepting applications for these dogs. Thank you for your interest!

We are processing very promising applications for Alaska, Digby, Mimosa and Maggie.  We may no longer be accepting applications for these dogs.  Please send us an e-mail before submitting an application.

ADOPTED

In the past week, Abuelo, Corky's Kramer, Magic and Peggy Sue have been adopted.  Congratulations to them and their new families!

For information on any of the above dogs, or any other dogs on our website, please contact us.

Weekly Rescue Round-up: October 24, 2011

NEW ARRIVALS

Bella is an adult, female Pug who recently arrived into foster care.  This sweet, playful girl enjoys the company of other dogs, cats and kids, and has oodles of energy to spare.  When she isn't playing with her foster siblings she loves to be with her people and a good long snooze!

Ozzie is a 3-year-old, male Poodle mix. Ollie gets along well with other dogs, is great in the car and loves his walks (and is very good on-leash).  An adult-only home would be best since he has had little to no exposure to children, and it is unknown how he would be with cats.  Ollie loves to play but is also a quiet, calm boy.

PENDING

Adoptions are currently approved and pending for Abuelo and Corky's Kramer.  We are no longer accepting applications for these dogs.  Thank you for your interest!

We are currently processing very promising application for Clara, Gracie and Magic.  Please contact us before submitting an application.

ADOPTED

Asha, Barbie Brightless and Tina have been adopted in the past week.  Congratulations them these ladies and their new families!

For information on any of the above dogs, or any other dogs on our website, please contact us.

Dog of the week: Kramer!

Kramer came into rescue via his loving mother, Corky, who was rescued from a puppy mill and arrived on her foster mom's doorstep pregnant! Corky gave birth to 5 adorable puppies - 4 male and 1 female - who have all been lucky enough to find amazing forever homes, Corky included. For some strange reason, Kramer remains in foster care.  There has been quite a bit of interest in this adorable fellow, but unfortunately the perfect family just hasn't found him yet.

Kramer was born on June 21 and is now going on 4 months of age.  He is a sweet, affectionate, mischevious little Terrier mix (we think Yorkie-Shnauzer-Cairn, but who knows!) who loves to run and play with the other foster dogs in the family.

Despite all the fun that Kramer is having with his foster brothers and sister, he would love a forever home of his very own.  He's always had a brother or sister for companionship so would love a furry sibling to keep him company and to play with, and a fenced yard to romp in would be fantastic too!  Because he is still young, a home where someone is home part-time is needed as he should get out for a potty break every 4 hours. Puppies need lots of stimulation, training and attention, so Kramer would not be happy being alone all day.

If you think you'd made a good family for this sweet pooch and are interested in providing him a forever home, you can submit an application through our website.  You can also visit his foster mom's blog for more photos and information.  Kramer is patiently waiting, and hopes to hear from you soon!

Weekly Rescue Round-up: October 11, 2011

Happy Thanksgiving!  We are thankful for our amazing volunteers and foster homes, and for all of the lives that we were able to save this year and for all the wonderful forever families that we found.

NEW ARRIVALS:

The following dogs are new to rescue and currently available for adoption on our website:

Chester Ray is a 9-year-old male Pug.  He is originally from Kentucky, and enjoy the company of other dogs and children over 8 years of age.

Gino is a 9-year-old, male Pomeranian originally from a local SPCA.  He enjoys the company of other dogs, but it is unknown whether he would enjoy a home with cats or kids as he has had little to no exposure.

Maggie Muggins is a 9-year-old, female Schnauzer.  She is good with dogs and with kids, but should not go to a home with cats.

Mimosa (aka Mimi) is a 6-year-old, female Yorkie-Papillon mix.  She gets along with other dogs and would likely be ok with cats, but would prefer a home without kids.

Shiloh is an approximately 2-year-old, male Basset Hound mix.  He is lovely and laid back, and enjoys the company of other dogs and cats, but has had no exposure to kids.

Sucre is a 3-year-old, male Min Pin.  He gets along with both dogs and cats, and would be fine with older children who are respectful of his small stature.

Wicket is a 3-year-old, male Pomeranian-Chihuahua-Papillon mix who was surrendered to rescue by his owner.  He is a playful guy that enjoys the company of other dogs and cats, and who would be fine with children 5+.

Dogs of the Week: The A-Team!

We're trying something a bit different with this week.  Meet our A-Team - aka, the dogs currently available for adoption who top our list because their names start with A!

Abuelo is a sweet and gentle, 8-year-old male Cocker Spaniel.  He is a quiet, mellow man who enjoys the company of other dogs his size (and smaller), and who came to us from Mexico.  Abuelo is being fostered just north of Peterborough in Buckhorn.

Alaska is a happy-go-lucky, 1-year-old female Terrier mix.  She is a sweet girl that gets along well with dogs, cats and kids.  Alaska came into rescue as a stray, and she loves to meet new people and go for long walks with her foster family in London.

Alphie is a goofy, friendly, 7-year-old male Beagle-Hound mix.  He gets along well with everyone - dogs, cats and kids - and would make an excellent family pet.  He originally landed himself in a Kentucky shelter, but is now being fostered in Peterborough.

Alvin is a friendly, 5-year-old male American Eskimo Dog.  He gets along with most dogs, but truth be told he would love to be the only pet in an adult-only home so that he can soak up 100% of your attention and love.  His passtimes include romping around his Newmarket foster home and hanging out with his "people".

Asha is a curious, 2-year-old Schnauzer-Poodle mix who was rescued from a barn along with her siblings.  She is timid with new people, but she gets along well with other dogs and with cats.  She is coming along well in building her confidence and leash skills, and is enjoying herself in her Niagara Falls foster home.

If you are interested in any of the above dogs, or any of the dogs listed on our website, please contact us or submit an application through our website.

Happy adopting!
