Oh little Stevie...he certainly is a wonder! Hence the name!
Stevie also got him name from the famous Stevie Wonder as, much like Stevie the singer, our little Stevie is blind. Stevie was born into a litter of breeding dogs, but it was quickly discovered that Stevie was unlike his siblings in that he had very special needs. A wonderful LOYAL Rescue volunteer stumbled upon sweet Stevie, rescued him from an unknown (but likely very sad) fate, and brought him into foster care where he could get the love, attention and medical care that he so deserved.
Stevie is a special boy, and he will require a special home that is willing to put the time, patience and training into this pup so that he will turn into a well-adjusted, balanced, happy dog.
Stevie has been seeing an eye specialist and while his left eye is showing no improvements, we are happy to report that his right eye seems to be improving slightly and he may some day regain some use of it. Right now he is on inexpensive over-the-counter eye drops to keep his eye moisturized; he is getting drops a few times per day. Stevie will be back to the specialist next month for an update.
The sad reality is that Stevie will always be at least partially blind, and his potential adopters should be aware of this. But don't let his "disability" turn you away, as Stevie is a loving, playful, energized pup who, after a rough start to life, is looking for that forever family to call his own.
You see, Stevie has no idea he's different from any of the other dogs in his foster home, and he doesn't let his issues slow him down. He's full of spit and vinegar, just like any other puppy without health issues!
If you are interested in learning more about adorable Stevie, send his dedicated foster mom Janet an e-mail at obkennels@rogers.com, or submit an application through our website. In the meantime, you can check out some information about blindness in dogs and see for yourself that, while there are certainly some challenges, providing a home to a dog like Stevie can be a hugely rewarding task.
Stevie is waiting to bring oodles of joy, kisses and cuddles into your life. Are you the lucky home to adopt such a deserving boy? Stevie hopes to hear from you!

Foster update - February 21, 2011
Wondering what dogs are new to rescue and who has recently found their forever home? This weekly update is your key to keeping track of LOYAL's adoptable dogs!
NEW ARRIVALS
Annie is a 5-7-year old Yorkshire Terrier-Australian Terrier mix who came to us in late January from an Ohio puppy mill. Annie has spent her entire life to-date in a mill, and is only now able to enjoy the sun, wind and snow on her face. She is still a bit timid and learning to trust humans, but her foster home is working on her socialization and building her confidence. Annie gets along well with other dogs and cats, but would do best in a home without small children. Annie is currently being fostered in Courtice, ON, just outside Bowmanville.
Brittania Ice is a senior girl - a 14-year-old Bichon Frise who has a sad story to tell. See, Brittania lived her entire life with her devoted mom until one day her mom went to the hospital for radiation treatment and did not come home. Brittania was suddenly without a family and in need of rescue. Brittania is a friendly girl who loves dogs, cats and kids, and who would make a lovely companion dog. She is looking for a forever home where she can spend the remainder of her days being spoiled and loved. Brittania is currently being fostered in Toronto, ON.
PHOTO COMING SOON!
Chloe is an 18-month-old Chihuahua who is in need of a new forever home. Chloe is a friendly, quiet girl who enjoys the company of other small dogs. It is unknown how she feels about cats or children, but older kids (10+) would likely be ok if they were respectful of her small size. Chloe is very new to rescue and is settling in nicely in her Iroquois, ON foster home.
Norton is a tiny 6-year-old male Poodle who spent his entire life in a puppy mill helping to provide endless litters of Poodle puppies to pet stores. What a sad life! But now Norton has nothing but blue skies ahead of him as he has been rescued and is now living the good life in his foster home. Norton is good with dogs and cats, and should be fine in a home with older kids or teenagers, but not small children due to his very small size (he's a whopping 3.5 lbs.!). Norton is being fostered in Uxbridge, ON.
Stella, a 6-month-old Dachshund mix, has finally arrived into rescue after a brief delay in the U.S. She is a spunky, adorable cuddle bug who just loves life. Stella loves cats, dogs and kids, and would love a home with a fenced yard to romp in and a family that will not leave her around for more than 6 hours during the day. She came to us from a shelter in Kentucky, and is now in a foster home in Mississauga, ON. Stella will make an amazing little pet to a lucky family!
Tienna is an adorable 18-month-old, female Jack Russell Terrier-Pug mix (a Jug!). She is an owner surrender who recently arrived to rescue, and her foster mom is happy to report that Tienna's disposition is just as sweet as her face! She loves dogs and would be fine with older (5+) kids, and would very likely be ok with cats as well. She is playful and well-behaved, and currently being fostered in Peterborough, ON.

Dog of the week: Kenzie!
Kenzie is a beautiful 4-year-old female Pomeranian who arrived a few weeks ago from a puppymill in Ohio. Kenzie has had very little socialization in her short life and because of this is quite shy and timid with new people. She is coming around in her foster home and is beginning to build some confidence.
Kenzie is doing well with the other dogs in her foster home, as well as the cats. Because of her past, she would do best with older kids only. No children under 14 years of age will be considered as loud noises and sudden movements still scare Kenzie.
Now that Kenzie is staring to settle in her sweet, loving personality is shining through. Soon she will understand that not all humans are scary, and she will some day be able to trust again.
Check out this sweet vide of Kenzie at play with her foster brothers and sisters!
Be sure to check out Kenzie's blog (oh yes, she has a blog!), or send us an e-mail at info@loyalrescue.com for more information.
If you think that you can provide the safe, loving home that Kenzie desperately needs, please submit an application through our website. Tweet

Wondering what dogs are new to rescue and who has recently found their forever home? This weekly update is your key to keeping track of LOYAL's adoptable dogs!
NEW ARRIVALS
Aspen is a 5-6 year old female Beagle mix who arrived last weekend from a rural pound in Ohio. She hasn't been treated very well in her life so far, but despite what has obviously been a rough life, she is a lovely, friendly, happy dog that is just looking for a family of her own. Aspen is good with everyone - dogs, cats and kids - and would make a great first pet as she's so easy-going! She is house and crate trained, and a huge cuddle bug! Aspen is currently being fostered in Ottawa, ON, and hopes that you will consider her and submit an application to bring her to your home!
Stella is a sweet 1-2 year old Terrier mix who is arriving this week from a shelter in Kentucky. We are told she is good with other dogs and kids, and probably fine with cats (but we will know more once she arrives into foster care). Her current temp foster describes her as "sweet and quiet", and says that she "looks like a dust mop!" LOL. Stella would love to be the newest addition to your family, so submit an application today, and stay tuned to her Petfinder profile for more info once she arrives to her Mississauga, ON foster home!

Wondering what dogs are new to rescue and who has recently found their forever home? This weekly update is your key to keeping track of LOYAL's adoptable dogs!
NEW ARRIVALS
{Wesley} is a 6-7 year-old Lhasa Apso mix who was rescued recently from an Uxbridge shelter. Wesley was living with two elderly woman, but unfortunately one passed away before Christmas, and the other broke her hip last month. Wesley remained with his owner for days before EMS was notified, and when they came to help her Wesley nipped at them out of fear and in the interest of protecting his family. Poor Wesley was taken to the shelter and surrendered, as his owner was not able to return to her home. Despite all of this, Wesley is a sweet little man that just needs some love, hugs and some reassurance after all he's been through. Wesley is good with other dogs and fine with cats, and would love an adult home to spend the rest of years in, living in luxury. He is currently being fostered in Peterborough, ON.
ADOPTED
{Alice} the Schnauzer mix, {Sydney} the Cockapoo and {Cherry} the Cavalier mix were lucky enough to find their forever homes this past week! Congratulations ladies!

Delilah the puppy mill survivor needs surgery!!
Delilah the Yorkie arrived on January 29, 2011 on a transport from Ohio where she was rescued by LOYAL Rescue Inc. from a puppy mill. She had had multiple litters, and had spent her two years of life in a small cage with no human affection.
We were told when she came to us that she had the start of dry eye in one eye, which was quite evident when we got her home. We put drops in it for days in the hope that the extreme dryness could be remedied, but knew after about 5 day that, while they did help slightly, the drops were not the solution.
Delilah was taken to our local vet and we were given the bad news: Delilah suffered a severe trauma to one side of her face which affected her jaw (it is twisted causing a severe under bite), her nose (her nostril is twisted and smaller than the other) and her eye (her eye socket is smaller and her eye was damaged). What likely began as dry eye turned into a major scratch on her eye ball which has left her without a cornea. Because of this scratch, eye fluid (what keeps our eyes lubricated, holds the structure and gives us sight) is leaking from her eye! So what we thought was infection being washed out is actually necessary, important fluid from inside her eye. Her eye is collapsing.
And the reason her nose always seems runny? It's not a cold, oh no, it's her eye fluid leaking out of her nasal passage on that side!
Delilah's has two options in terms of correction: a very pricey specialist who could re-create a lense and cornea, and repair her eye giving her back at least some sight (she currently cannot see out of that eye, hence her terrible depth perception), or removal of the eye so that Delilah can move on with her life.
Despite these health issues, Delilah loves life! She is so sweet and happy, and has yet to meet a person she doesn't love (which is quite remarkable given how humans have treated her her entire life). She gives sweet kisses to everyone - dogs and humans alike - and loves to cuddle on your lap. She is wonderful on a leash and loves to romp outside with her foster brother (a fellow LOYAL rescue dog!). She sleeps in our bed and has a fantastic zest for life.
With this extreme of an injury to her eye, however, it's very unlikely that Delilah is not hiding at least some degree of pain. But she doesn't complain! Life outside of the mill is so sweet, how could a girl find any fault?
As you know, LOYAL Rescue Inc. is a non-profit rescue comprised of dedicated, hard working volunteers who donate their time, money, expertise, and homes to these wonderful homeless souls. Without donations from the public we cannot operate and cannot save dogs. When we take on cases like Delilah's, the fee that we receive upon the dog's adoption can often only cover 1/4 or less of the cost that LOYAL incurred for their vetting. This is why we desperately need your help!
Delilah needs this surgery, that much is true. Without it, she will continue to endure what we can only imagine is constant pain and suffering. After all she has been through in her life so far, she deserves more than that.
Donations to Delilah's surgery can be made through the following secure Chipin page. These funds go directly to LOYAL Rescue Inc. and will pay Delilah's mounting vet bills!
We are so happy that Delilah came into our lives, even if it is just for a short while until she finds her forever home. Please help us make her wish come true and give her a new start to a better, happy, healthy life in 2011.
Thank you for your generous donation, and for your ongoing support of LOYAL Rescue Inc. and our rescued dogs.

Pooch Profile: Jimmy's Story
"I'll bet a lot of you folks don't believe that, about a wish comin' true, do ya? Well, I didn't, either...".
~ Jiminy Cricket, Pinocchio (1940)
Jimmy, or Jiminy Cricket, if you please, has been in rescue for over a year! Can you believe it?!
Jimmy originally came to us from Ohio when his owner died and was no longer able to care for him and his nine brothers and sisters.
Jimmy is an approximately 10-year-old Silky Terrier who is neutered, up-to-date with his shots, and who, other than being blind in one eye and having no teeth (they were removed due to rot), is in great health! Don't let his senior age fool you, Jimmy still has many years of love and life left in him!
Jimmy gets along great with small dogs like him, and doesn't mind big dogs if they are submissive and respectful of his size, and he just loves the resident cat in his Niagara Falls, ON foster home. He would do well in a home with older children (12+) only due to his age and his low energy level.
This spunky terrier loves to go for walks and is a totally low-maintenance guy. He does require weekly brushing to keep his long coat in good condition, but he is otherwise happy to lounge on your lap or bounce around the backyard with his foster pals.
He also does a mean Hoover impression when crumbs hit the kitchen floor!
Jimmy is currently home a typical working day (around 8 hours) without issue, and does not need to be crated as he is not a destructive guy. When his humans are home, however, he loves to spend time with them. A little dog companion might not be too bad either!
For more information on Jimmy, visit his blog (oh yeah, he has his own blog!), our website, or submit an application for adoption. And stay tuned to his Petfinder profile as he's having professional photos taken on February 2, 2011 and can't wait to show them off!
Can you make Jimmy's wish for a new home come true? We promise this goofy guy will not disappoint! Jimmy's waiting for you!
